Abstract
Fibroxanthoma is a benign neoplasm composed of mixture of fibroblastic and histiocytic cells that are arranged in sheets or short fascicles. Fibroxanthomas or fibrohistiocytic lesions of the subcutaneous and deep soft tissues have previously been studied extensively. However, only a few cases of intracranial fibroxanthoma have been reported. Intracranial ibroxanthoma were classified into ventricular type anddural type, and the latter is reported to be rare. We report this rare case of infantile fibroxanthoma arising from the dura mater, mimicking meningiomas. A 6-month-old female infant was admitted to our hospital for enlarged head circumference(97 percentile). The tumor was a huge, well-circumscribed hyper-echogenic mass in the right parieto-occipital area on ultrasonography, and iso- to hyper intense to gray matter on T1-and T2-weighted magnetic resonance images(MRI). The enhancement pattern was homogenous, and the tumor was mimicking meningiomas. On operative findings, the mass was yellow in color and hard to remove due to severe fibrotic natures. It was tightly adherent to the thickened dura. A gross total resection was performed and the final histopathological diagnosis was fibroxanthoma.
